Building Strong Communicators & Confident Readers

Evidence-based speech-language therapy and reading intervention

in Wellington and West Palm Beach, Florida

About Christie

Hi there! I'm Christie Hollis, M.S., CCC-SLP, a Florida-licensed and ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist.

After graduating from the University of Florida (Go Gators!), I spent two years working as a reading tutor. During that time, I realized that many of my students struggled with underlying skills, such as phonological awareness, speech sound production, and language comprehension, that traditional reading tutoring alone couldn't address. This inspired me to pursue a career in speech-language pathology.

Today, I have over six years of experience providing evidence-based, individualized speech and language therapy, with a special interest in literacy and reading disorders. I've completed specialized training in Lindamood-Bell's Visualizing and Verbalizing, Lively Letters, and Orton-Gillingham.

I founded Hollis Speech & Literacy to provide a comprehensive approach to speech, language, and reading development, helping children build a strong foundation for success.

Our Clinical Services

Speech Sound Therapy

Speech sound disorders affect a child's ability to produce speech sounds. These can include:

  • Articulation Disorders: Difficulty saying certain sounds correctly, such as "r" and "s."

  • Phonological Disorders: Using patterns that young children use to simplify speech beyond the expected age.

  • Motor Speech Disorders: Difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed to produce speech, including childhood apraxia of speech (CAS).

Speech therapy at HSL uses evidence-based, individualized approaches to help children improve their speech intelligibility and communicate with confidence.

Language Therapy

Language encompasses a variety of skills that we use to communicate on a daily basis, including:

  • Expressive Language: Using vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure express ourselves.

  • Receptive Language: Understanding language concepts, following directions, and processing auditory information.

  • Pragmatic Language: Using language effectively in social interactions.

Language therapy at HSL strengthens these skills to support children in understanding others, expressing themselves, and communicating confidently in everyday situations.

Literacy Intervention

Reading and writing involve a variety of skills, including:

  • Phonological Awareness: Recognizing and manipulating sounds in words.

  • Letter-Sound Correspondence: Connecting letters to their sounds.

  • Decoding & Encoding: Using phonics skills to read and spell words.

  • Orthographic Mapping: Storing words for automatic recognition.

  • Reading Fluency: Reading text accurately, smoothly, and with appropriate rate.

  • Reading Comprehension: Understanding and remembering text.

Literacy intervention at HSL uses systematic, explicit, and cumulative instruction to help children become confident, independent readers and writers.
